WHAT I'VE DONE SINCE HIGH SCHOOL
(or the last 40 years in the Dover area)
After graduation, I attended Wesley
College (where women still had to wear dresses or skirts to class). My
sophomore year, I transferred to Delaware State College where I went on to get
my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. From there I attended the
University of Delaware and earned a Master's Degree in Special Education.
I got my first real job at Caesar Rodney Junior High teaching kids with
learning disabilities. During this time, I got married, had a daughter,
and was involved in a serious car accident. I was in a coma for two
weeks! I was out of work for a year. Later, I transferred to
Stokes Elementary School where I taught "regular" third, fourth and
sixth grades. I concluded my teaching career by teaching math to sixth
graders at Fifer Middle School.
Besides my jobs in public education, I've also worked
at the YMCA, primarily teaching swimming and aerobic dancing. In
addition, I taught aerobic dancing for Kent County Parks and Recreation.
I still walk and do weight training. I also visit my mother at
Westminster Assisted Living where we walk and shoot pool. I have been
volunteering in the emergency room at Kent General for the past 25 years.
I attend church where I sing in the choir, am in charge of the adult class and
where I met my wonderful husband, George. He loves to travel and so we
have vacationed in Yellowstone, Florida, New York, Maine, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Virginia, D.C., New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the three Virgin Islands,
Mexico, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Costa Rica.
My daughter also graduated form DHS, and was a
cheerleader there for all four years (something I always wanted to do).
She also graduated from the University of Delaware and is now a high school
teacher of Government and World History in Elkton, MD.
My life has been blessed and I'm very thankful for
the education and experiences I had in the Dover/Capital School District.
