1969 2009 (John- left, Alice Cooper - right)

Other than going out as a roadie on the Alice Cooper Tour in 1973 after College my life has been full but, not that wild. I still see Alice when he plays here. (I have a lifetime backstage pass). I have supported Public TV here since I arrived and worked on-air for the fundraisers through the 80’s I also spent many years on the Sun Bowl CBS host committee working with some great sportscasters. I have worked in the Liquor and Wine Wholesale industry in Texas since I moved from Phoenix in 1975. The details . . .

Graduated from Clemson University in 1973 and did my adventure on the Alice Cooper tour. The tour ended in New York City and I decided to follow the crew to Phoenix . I got a job with an architect working on the 50-year recreation development plan for the state (a necessary document to apply for federal grants of all types). After my portion was complete I was let go. Big life lesson there! I continued to enjoy Phoenix , played volleyball, drank beer, and worked odd jobs including working in a meat packing plant. I still have trouble with bologna.

After several months of much fun and low pay I got an invitation to work selling furniture. I found I was pretty good at selling and was asked if I would like to be an assistant manager . . . in El Paso, Texas. So I moved to Texas . The job lasted several months and I found myself pulled into a different field: radio. I became a salesman for XROCK-80 a station that could be heard all over Texas at night. (ZZ Top mentioned it on Heard it on the X.)

One night while doing a promotion for the station two men approached and we started talking about music and who I played basketball for in college. Near the end of the night they asked if I would consider being in the “Whisky Business”?

The rest is history. I started in 1976 as a salesperson, worked my way up to VP and Branch manager. My wife Leeanne and I have been together for 28 + years. No kids but we have at least 4 “rescue” dogs in the house at any given time.

I like golf, collecting and consuming wine, cooking, and gardening. Leanne is a super third grade teacher and we both love movies, reading, and enjoying all types of music together (playing and listening).

I have been practicing (we call it playing) Yang-style Tai Chi for about 15 years and really think it’s good for me.

I will do my best to get to Dover in August.
