After high school I worked in an electric
motor shop for $1.60/hr in Dover. Then I was hired by E.H. Richardson Land
Surveyors receiving a huge raise to $2.25/hr (thats a 41% raise Mr. Layton)
and found a little freedom! I bought a '66 GTO from Chip Slaughter (pastel
yellow/black vinyl top/Cragers/4 speed). A beautiful year of muscle car fun
ensued! Great job, great car and dating a Wesley College girl (Lynn Wartman-anyone
seen her?). I was on top of the world! Then came peace, love and drugs. There
was no escaping it-by the end of 1970 I flew to L.A. on a one-way ticket for
more freedom and adventure. From 70-73 I lived in Orange, Newport Beach and
Huntington Beach and then Boston. Then I came back to Dover where I worked as a
lot man first, then in sales for Dover Nissan from '76-'79 (thanks, Jerry Passon
for the Sales position-I've never forgotten it), then moved to St. Petersburg,
Fl. There, I painted houses and eventually got into "fixer-upper
homes" and real estate and THEN found my dream job (and the inspiration to
quit drugs and non-stop partying). I drove a big, modern, state-of-the-art tour
bus (seven tv's-vcr-Blaupunkt sound system) all over the U.S. and Canada
(freedom city!) (and still do...25 years now). It's been a great career-4
star hotels-met lots of great people from all over the world. We did two and
three week tours to the National Parks in the Canadian and American
Rockies and all over the wild west-also NYC.-Boston-Toronto-Wash.
D.C.-Chicago-RT.66-L.A.-S.F.-Nashville-New Orleans-Miami Beach. I went to 4
Super Bowls-2 Daytona 500's-Nascar-Nasa-worked for President's Reagan and Bush
Sr.-The Secret Service-Gov. Schwarzenegger and his Northern and Southern
Protection Detail in Calif.-movie/tv/music stars-The Rose Parade-The
International Hot Air Baloon Festival in Albuquerque-lots of College Bowl
games-lots of NFL football teams and MLB baseball teams. After years of
year-round work I now only work the summer season and then take the winter
off. I see lots of Dover & CR people here in Florida and also when visiting
Mom in Dover. Dad died of heart attack in 1981. I'm divorced-no kids-lots of
friends. I hang out with Bobby Lefort, Dan Maggart, Sammy Hughes, Ed Motley (all
from CR). Mike McKewen (CR) was here for 20 years then moved back to Dover. We
watch sports together on TV on the weekends, eat buffalo wings at sports bars,
go to Tampa Bay Bucs, Devil Rays and Lightning games (wearing our Philly
jerseys,of course!), cruise in my mint condition '64 GTO (4 speed/3 deuces) to
the beach, car shows, etc. I see Craig & Lynn Massey (their Mom lives near
me) and Ron Slacum. Others in this area are Annette Atwell, Don Lefort, Tom
Cuthcall, my brother Mark, Deedee Peacock, Don & Cathy Duffy, Judy Skweres,
Jay Calhoun, Renie Martin, Nancy Cahall, Dan Ramsburg, and Kim Richardson &
Janet Schraeder. I've been drug free since '83 (hey, 14 yrs was enough for me)
and mostly alcohol free (an occasional beer or two with the wings!). I stay as
healthy as possible with exercize but still have the aches and pains and yes,
like all of us, the looks of old age. Overall, life is good! It's time to
re-connect with your old friends. We have our 40th and 50th reunions coming up!
We all grinded it out the best we could. We had huge cultural changes to deal
with-Racism, Viet Nam, Woodstock, Watergate, Disco! So give yourselves and
everyone else a break! It was the Age of Aquarius! We all took different routes
thru life but still have the same personalities that we knew eachother by
throughout our high school days. (If not, call me for some counceling-you ol'
hippie!). I have lots of contacts with Dover, CR, DAFB and Holy Cross alumni.
